Friday Fancy Folds

There are so many different ways to fold paper to make beautiful and unique cards.  I've chosen  the first Friday Fancy Fold for both of these reasons.  You may be familiar wit a Drapery Fold or a Curtain fold. It uses a sheet of Designer Series Paper (DSP) or paper that has a design on both sides.  Basically the card has three to five folds that gradually decreased (or increase) in length. Because you use double sided paper the fold helps to show both sides. With the release of the Holiday Mini Catalog on August 4th, I'm using some of the new DSP shown in the catalog.

To begin, cut a piece of 12 x 12 inch paper (DSP) into two pieces.  Cut one piece that measures 5 1/2 inches by 12 inches.  Using this piece, make a dot one inch (1") along the shorter side (at 4 1/2 inches).  Turn the paper to the other short side, and mark 1" from the edge.  The marks will be at opposite sides.  Then take your cutter and place the dot on one side under the cutter and tilt the paper so the dot on the other side is also under the cutter.  This will be a diagonal cut.

Picture below shows the piece cut.  Beginning at the larger end, score at 1 inch, 3 inches, 4 inches, 6 inches, 7 inches, 9 inches, 10 inches, and 11 inches.  Fold at the score lines alternating the folds to form pleats.

To hold the pleats in place, use a little liquid glue or a glue dot at the top of the pleat.  Notice that when the folding is complete, there will be four pleats and the reverse side of the paper will show. Place a 1/2 inch piece of cardstock at top to cover edge.

The picture above shows the pleated piece glued onto cardstock.  It will sit to the top of the card.  If you make the piece less than 5 1/2 inches, the pleats will be shorter.

You can then decorate your card as desired.  I used Mossy Meadow and Real Red cardstock to mat the pleats and form the A2 size card.  I used a 1 1/2 circle punch for the sentiment.

Please leave any questions or comments.  Check back next Friday for another Fancy Fold !
