Friday Fancy Folds

There are so many different ways to fold paper to make beautiful and unique cards.  I've chosen  the first Friday Fancy Fold for both of these reasons.  You may be familiar wit a Drapery Fold or a Curtain fold. It uses a sheet of Designer Series Paper (DSP) or paper that has a design on both sides.  Basically the card has three to five folds that gradually decreased (or increase) in length. Because you use double sided paper the fold helps to show both sides. With the release of the Holiday Mini Catalog on August 4th, I'm using some of the new DSP shown in the catalog.

To begin, cut a piece of 12 x 12 inch paper (DSP) into two pieces.  Cut one piece that measures 5 1/2 inches by 12 inches.  Using this piece, make a dot one inch (1") along the shorter side (at 4 1/2 inches).  Turn the paper to the other short side, and mark 1" from the edge.  The marks will be at opposite sides.  Then take your cutter and place the dot on one side under the cutter and tilt the paper so the dot on the other side is also under the cutter.  This will be a diagonal cut.

Picture below shows the piece cut.  Beginning at the larger end, score at 1 inch, 3 inches, 4 inches, 6 inches, 7 inches, 9 inches, 10 inches, and 11 inches.  Fold at the score lines alternating the folds to form pleats.

To hold the pleats in place, use a little liquid glue or a glue dot at the top of the pleat.  Notice that when the folding is complete, there will be four pleats and the reverse side of the paper will show. Place a 1/2 inch piece of cardstock at top to cover edge.

The picture above shows the pleated piece glued onto cardstock.  It will sit to the top of the card.  If you make the piece less than 5 1/2 inches, the pleats will be shorter.

You can then decorate your card as desired.  I used Mossy Meadow and Real Red cardstock to mat the pleats and form the A2 size card.  I used a 1 1/2 circle punch for the sentiment.

Please leave any questions or comments.  Check back next Friday for another Fancy Fold !

FRIDAY FAB FOLDS is starting in August !

Besides using stunning DSP (Designer Series Paper) and adorable stamps, one way to create FABULOUS  cards is to use unusual folds.  Folding techniques can add special design and focus on details that are not usually found on cards.  Each Friday in August, I will be providing directions on using folding techniques to add special interest to your cards.

Be checking back here starting Friday, July 31st ( yes I know that's not August, but I just couldn't wait til August to show these to you!)

Meanwhile, stay safe and keep creating...

Using the Old and New

When you sit down at your crafting table, do you already have something in mind that you want to create?  Is it a special card to be sent to a friend or family member? Or did you just gets home photos printed and want to scrapbook them? Is it because you recently purchased new supplies and want to PLAY?  Or is it you want to just create something new?

When I sit down, it's usually to create something specific.  I'm a crafter who creates with a plan.  I start with a specific plan (maybe even drawn out on paper) and begin to gather my tools and supplies. What often happens is that I cannot find the saying or stamp that I want to use and before I know it, I've created something totally different than what I planned.  I usually created a mess of my crafting space when I'm done.  Is this you or are you more organized?

When I'm working on something specific, I often discover new projects that i'd like to make in the future.  I jot those ideas down and try to create them while using some of my stash.  In that way, if they don't turn out, I don't mind throwing the attempt in the "round file".

Recently, a few crafters and I missed seeing each other each month due to the virus and wanted to socialize.  As we all like to paper craft, I started organizing Zoom meetings and suggested we all make cards with one specific theme each month.  So far we've used flower punches and dies (not stamps) to create a card.  Then we created a monochromatic card.  And then, 11 cards using the One Sheet Wonder guidelines.  This month we are to create 3 cards using one inch strips of paper.  One card has the strips run vertically; another one with the strips horizontally; and a third with the strips diagonally.

Using the the DSP from the Painted Poppies Suite, I created the background and fussy cut the poppy which was added on the bottom left corner.  Words from Peaceful Moments stamp set found in the Annual Catalog for 2020 - 2021, page 19.

Using the DSP from Butterfly Wishes Suite (discontinued in May 2020), I created the background paper and fussy cut the butterflies.

Happy Weekend!

Do you have plans for the weekend?  Hope it includes having fun with your family and friends.  Just make sure to save some time for crafting!

The new mini Holiday Catalog for August - December 2020 hasn't been released yet, but as a demonstrator I received my copy in the mail and I was able to pre-order.  And let me just say, this catalog offers many new and exciting ideas for the holidays.  The release date is August 4th!   Make sure to let me know if you'd like a copy of the holiday mini catalog.

And guess what arrived today?  My FIRST order from the Holiday Mini Catalog!
Here are some pictures of just some of my new toys...

Do you see the Christmas Gnomes...and the Halloween Cat?  What about the mini coffee cup holders?  They're just waiting to be decorated with Wrapped in Christmas tags!  And the big bells which have dies!  Can't you just see cards with the bells die cut out of the shiny gold, brass, or copper paper?  And the new DSP are all in the Christmas colors, snowflakes, and even village scenes.  Oh, my head is spinning with ideas.

AND to help you prepare for your holiday shopping ....

                                        July Bonus Days are back!

Here's how it works:  for every $50 you spend by 3 August 2020 (before shipping and tax)  you earn a $5 Bonus Days coupon code that can be used from August 4–31, 2020.  That means when the NEW Holiday Catalog comes out you can have your coupons to use on NEW PRODUCTS!  and who doesn't love saving money?

Yeah!  Finally figured out the blog to get things listed on it.  Please know more items will be coming but wanted to get this up and running to post what's going on with Stampin' Up:

1.  New Annual Catalog for 2020 - 2021 was released.  Many of you have already attended a "Party" of sorts (the virus is keeping us away from doing real parties) and you have been able to select your favs.  Hopefully, everyone has received the items they ordered and are having fun creating!  Please note that you can post here or on my Facebook page or both!  We'd love to see your creations.

2.  The new Holiday Mini Catalog for August 2020 to May 2021 was released to demonstrators.  And to say it's full of great ideas is an understatement!  Tags, cards, 3D projects, treat boxes, or my!  It will be available for everyone to order early August.  The catalogs have been ordered and should arrive to me soon.  Just let me know if you'd like a copy and I'll be sure to get one to you!

3.  Be looking for my first Friday FAB Folds presentation.  At that time, I will show you how to make a card or 3D project using an unusual folding technique.  It'll be a short 30 minutes presentation so it'll be a quick view to learn something new.  Time to be announced shortly.

In the meantime....here's some pictures of creations using my old stash made while waiting for my new catalog order to be delivered.  The first is a card made with older DSP and Butterflies cut from old Butterfly DSP followed by two cards from the Painted Poppies Stamp set and discontinued Poppy DSP.  I tried to make room for new stuff!  And the last picture is my first order....it arrived!
